Printed talks given by
Dr. Pitcairn of general interest:
A New Look At Vaccines: A discussion of vaccines and the diseases they cause in humans and animals. The latter part of the presentation considers the question if vaccines are effective in preventing disease, considering evidence that they have little effect compared to sanitation measures which have more profoundly changed the patterns of infectious disease.
Homeopathic Alternatives to Vaccines: How homeopathic disease prevention with nosodes (remedies made from disease products) work in clinical practice. Discusses the schedule that Dr. Pitcairn has used and the experience of other homeopathic practitioners.

"When I first graduated, (from veterinary school, 1965) if there was a large dog like a Labrador or German Shepherd, those dogs were expected to live to be around 15, 16 years of age. Now, veterinarians tell their clients that they're old at 7." Pitcairn
Dr. Pitcairn first graduated from the University of California, Davis, in 1965, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Entering private practice in Southern California, he worked with both small animals, farm livestock and zoo animals where he saw a wide variety of health problems.
He soon found that the treatments he had learned in veterinary school were not having the results he expected, and he determined to advance his training and knowledge. In 1967, he accepted a position at Washington State University, Pullman, Washington, as Assistant Professor. This was followed by graduate school with a major in microbiology and immunology and a minor in biochemistry, this work completed in 1972 with a Ph.D. degree.
Following this, Dr. Pitcairn worked as a faculty member at WSU, then re-entered private practice at a variety of clinics in Oregon and California, including a stint at the Monterey County SPCA.
In 1982, the first edition, with his wife Susan, of Dr. Pitcairn's Complete Guide To Natural Health For Dogs and Cats was published, now in its third edition and having sold over 400,000 copies.
In 1985, he moved to Eugene, Oregon, to establish a practice devoted solely to use of homeopathy and nutritional therapy. In 1992, following several years of teaching workshops in homeopathy, the Professional Course in Veterinary Homeopathy was established. By 2006, 13 classes have been trained in homeopathic practice, a total of over 450 veterinarians.
In 1995, Dr. Pitcairn co-founded the Academy of Veterinary Homeopathy, the first professional organization of practicing veterinary homeopaths in the United States.
He continues to be active in teaching and writing in the area of homeopathic medicine and healing of disease, and is featured in 23 minutes of interviews, his first on camera in 23 years, on the DVD, Eat, Drink & Wag Your Tail.
