Michael W. Fox, D.Sc., Ph.D.,
B. Vet. Med., MRCVS

"As Albert Einstein observed, the problems of the world cannot be solved by the same consciousness that caused them." from an interview with Dr. FoxMichael W. Fox is a former Vice-President and Senior Scholar (Bioethics), of the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), and is widely known from 25 years of the syndicated column “Ask Your Animal Doctor", which appears in over 120 newspapers nationwide, and enjoys an estimated readership of over 12 million weekly.
Fox is a veterinarian who was born and educated in England. He is the author of more than 40 books, including Eating with Conscience: The Bioethics of Food. He and his wife founded the India Project for Animals and Nature (IPAN) and its sanctuary, Hill View Farm Animal Refuge.
Fox joined HSUS in 1976, and held various posts through 2001. He is now a director of an HSUS affiliate called the Center for Respect of Life and Environment. Former HSUS CEO John Hoyt said the Center was created “to let Dr. Fox direct some of his views in a channel that was an arm’s length removed from the HSUS.”
What are those controversial views about which Hoyt was so concerned? ...Fox holds the radical view that humans and animals have the same moral standing. “We are not superior. There are no clear distinctions between us and animals,” Fox once told Washingtonian magazine.

How to Raise the Pefect Canine Companion
|
Excellent in-depth information on the intellegence and abilities of canines. The book covers ways to understand the dog's thought process & habits and how to decode the dog's language. |
| REVIEW: Fox provides important chapters on how to correctly raise a puppy and includes a chapter on dogs and kids, among other things. Fox also touches on the subjects of the dog's sixth sense and animal rights. The last two chapters provide IQ and Temperment Tests you can use in choosing a new dog or evaluating your own. There is also a helpful appendix of FAQs including bad habits, neutering, and overcoming car fear. Although Fox doesn't provide extensive information on ways to train your dog, the obedience chapter is thorough (and humane) and simple to read & understand. -Great for quick reference! There is a good amount of advice included on types of training methods and theories, and Dr. Fox highly promotes the Dog Whisperer, Paul Owens' training programs. |
